Ivor Weiss Painting

Sandys Row Synagogue have recently been gifted this beautiful painting by the Weiss family, which was painted by their father, the artist and art dealer, Ivor Weiss. Ivor was born in Stepney in 1919, growing up somewhere near Cable Street. His parents were Orthodox Romanian Jewish immigrants and it is likely that they knew Sandys Row Synagogue, or even frequented it. Later in life Ivor painted a number of powerful religious Jewish works. During his lifetime Ivor exhibited widely in England and North America, and his works are included in a number of private and public collections, including London’s Ben Uri Gallery. Sandys Row Synagogue are delighted to include one of Ivor’s paintings in our own collection.
