European Day of Jewish Culture

On Sunday October 14th Sandys Row Synagogue celebrated the European Day of Jewish Culture with a wonderful afternoon of music, poetry and storytelling in our historic and atmospheric building in Spitalfields. This special afternoon  included live Khlezmer music from the band Bubba and the Kishkas, poetry from London’s foremost Jewish poet Bernard Kops, a walk through Yiddish Jazz of the East End by broadcaster and oral historian Alan Dein, stories about the area from Yiddishist, poet and storyteller Derek Reid and new work by author and social historian of Sandys Row Rachel Lichtenstein, along with a lively programme of talks and stories from a range of other speakers. Kosher refreshments were available along with a special exhibition in the basement by architecture and interior design students from the nearby Cass School of Art. This event proved very popular with tickets selling out quickly and over 120 people attending. We hope to put on more events like this in the future please check this Facebook page or Sandys Row website for further updates
